quick logo in gimp

Quick design for a friend.
Used as logo for a new launched application in the company.

Done in Gimp as it was the only application available to me at the time.
Time took less than 1 hour.

homestay flyer

The following flyers were designed for a homestay.

{Initial Design}

Bright colour and flowy lines to draw attention.
Emphasis on the catch-line and price.
Contact and location map placed on a darker colour area.
This separates them from the description, putting more focus on them while keeping an organised look.

{Final Design}

Used calmer colour tone per customer preference for more stylish look.
Replaced main image with living room as it's the location customers spent most time in.
Removed all other elements to keep the design minimal and simple.

illustration practice with bobby chiu's tutorial

Bobby Chiu is one of my favourite illustrator.
He's shared a few video tutorials of his painting process in YouTube which I found really useful.

This is me following the tutorial Bobby Chiu - digital painting of old man.
It's funny how doing exactly the same thing,
mine turn out like a Chinese old man while his was a western.

Final image cropped and coloured.

The process.

wedding shots

These photos were taken for a friend on her wedding day.
The couple had a packed schedule so shots have to be quick and some under low lighting condition.
This is to showcase how some simple touch ups can bring a big difference to the end picture.

1. Curve and level adjustments to brighten the image
2. Color balance adjustment for better skin tone
3. Stamping and cloning to remove clutter from background
4. Blurring the background to draw focus onto the bride

Cropping to improve composition and remove distracting details like the ceiling.

Lastly, minor editing to add in the couple's name.
Hope this gives you some idea on how to achieve your desired outcome. ;)

recycling category board design

Created these boards for a recycling centre to categorise each collection bins.

The requester wanted something eye catching with a cartoony character on it.
So I created a simple human figure carrying things for recycling.

The concept was to create something simple, attractive
and most important of all,
helps the public recognise which category their recycle items belongs to.

I used minimal design on the boards to avoid clutter and
colour coded each category base on the recycling material to ease identification even from afar.
Symbols of common items in that category were listed along with actual product images
to help the public categorise even better.

creating a cake in photoshop

Wanted to create a vector image in Photoshop.
Found this reference image on Google.

I started off by creating the basic look with simple shapes like eclipse and square.

Created an orange slice using the pen tool, then make duplicates of it.
Added in details like highlights and texture of the cake.

Finally added light and shadow to make the cake pop!
